For Christmas Pam gave me a hand held GPS system so that Kim and I could take our grandkids Geocaching. A friend had told me about Geocaching last year and I had wanted to give it a try. You go online and find a cache then plug the coordinates into your hand held GPS and off you go. Allison and Chad tried it with us one evening but we realized that you needed some daylight in order to find these treasures. Our family went for a picnic lunch at Spring Mountain Ranch and then Chad headed up the search for our cache.
All the boys wanted a turn holding the GPS and leading the way.
It took us a minute to realize that the GPS accuracy had a slight delay so once you moved around when you were close then you had to stop to allow it to recalculate. We figured it out and had a fun afternoon finding three different caches in the area.

Briton had a girlfriend come with - not exactly sure they loved the idea but they were good sports and helped with the younger boys.
The first cache was right in the middle of this huge cactus.
Allison spotted the container and Chad dug it out of the cactus.
Kelsie and Aspen would see what was inside and then the adults signed
and dated the log sheet in the cache.
Vance loved holding the GPS even if he didn't know how to do it exactly he didn't want to
miss out on the fun. We hope that we have many good memories geocaching on future out of town trips,
at Cub Scouts, for family gatherings and whenever. Thanks Pam and Jay for a great gift.
